Virtual Reality | Part 1
19 June 2020 | Zerlinda van der Merwe
WHEN, not IF, the National Lockdown comes to an end, and we have the opportunity to face reality, as we will then know it, I believe that virtual meetings will not become a thing of the past, and instead may become the preferred method of meeting, not only in the context of the workplace but in community schemes as well.
Every managing agent's nightmare of not being able to obtain a quorum at a meeting may become less of a reality, and the running of meetings may become more focussed on discussion and resolution than less on admin and technicalities.
Before the Lockdown, I was a big proponent of meeting face to face, and tried to move away from Skype (I didn't even know that Zoom existed at the time) and the telephone, but now, with all the options available to us, and the ever improving quality of each call and attendee participation, I'm quite enjoying being able to conduct and attend meetings, wearing my slippers (I know you do too!).
From a workplace perspective, I'm finding that I have more time to engage with colleagues and feel as though I've gotten to know a few people better (or worse), and have been able to dedicate uninterrupted time to each issue I am faced with. Working remotely and remote meeting attendance is not for everyone, and there's always that one owner that needs a captive audience to make a point, but for me, it's working.
Over the next few articles, I'm going to be taking a look at a few tips and tricks for remote attendance and electronic voting in community schemes, so if you have any thoughts, feel free to share them with me.
